Review of The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962) by Clay B — 05 Sep 2010
Another Ford film that just doesn't quite impress me. Other than the title and cast, I thought it pretty average. With Marvin and Wayne there was a nice battle of the awesome voices. If Marvin made "dude" cool in 1962, Bridges made it cool again several decades later.
I think this is the oldest movie I've seen that features the word "dude" and I like Marvin as a bad guy better than a clean cut hero. I didn't like Stewart as much as I have in other movies, and I'm not typically a Wayne fan other than the voice and delivery of lines.
People really like this movie but I thought it maybe slightly above average at best, and no where close to the best western (Once Upon a time in the west).
