Review of The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962) by Jeff B — 18 Nov 2011
It could have been interesting if someone other than Jimmy Stewart hadn't played the lead. He was cast right--as a kind of book-smart city-slicker--but I just hate him so much. He has the weirdest way of talking and tries to make everything he says sound so important.
(His motions and facial expressions are good though.) John Wayne plays his typical bad ass character, so I liked that. And Lee Marvin was miles better here than he was in freaking "Cat Ballou." Still, this could have been a great film, but it ended up being just pretty good.
(And, because Jimmy Stewart's on-screen so much, I doubt I'll be interesting in watching it again.).
