Review of The Man Who Knew Too Much (1934) by Joel K — 02 Apr 2008
This was a disappointment for me on the whole. The 39 Steps was infinitely better than this film. The acting is awkward, the staging is awkward, and the sound effects are just completely unconvincing. Gun shots sound like someone hitting a plate with a spoon.
I couldn't figure out what the hell was going on for about 45 minutes, and the movie's only 75 minutes long. It was almost like some film major's college project he put on youtube to show his friends.
It's that bad, and it's Hitchcock. Hopefully, the remake's better.
