Review of The Man Who Knew Too Little (1997) by Shawn T — 30 Jan 2008
The infinite levels of nuance in every facet of this indescribably amazing movie give me a new experience every time I watch it, and I've watched it hundreds of times. Bill Murray beautifully underplays an almost constant state of panic behind poor Wallace Ritchie's eyes, Joanne Whalley makes us believe the ingenious misunderstandings, and Richard Wilson and Nicholas Woodeson give us the perfect pair of conspirators caught off guard.
The double entendre that weaves its way through the entire film makes both sides believable, and the misunderstandings play directly from one into another instead of being the result of happenstance or dumb luck.
All in all a masterpiece of a film from Jon Amiel and Robert Farrar.
