Review of The Man Who Knew Infinity (2016) by Georgia L — 14 May 2016
Ramanujan was a brilliant, intuitive mathematician and Hardy was the leader of the then new movement towards highly formal proofs in mathematics. Yet Hardy was the one who recognized the power of Ramanujan's thought and brought him to Cambridge.
It is a deep, deep paradox that the movie explores successfully. Irons and Patel do a wonderful job of giving life and passion, and a relationship, to these two such different men. I also recommend both the book by the same name, and Hardy's wonderful "A Mathematician's Apology" that explains what it meant to him to do pure mathematics.
