Review of The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976) by Mike M — 30 May 2009
Somebody's going to have to sit down and watch it with me and explain why what's happening is happening and how it pertains to the plot as it's described. I mean, among other things, why did he need nipple surgery? How his life reflected against Rip Torn's would have been nice.
And whatever happened with his contacts being fused to his real eyes? What ever came of that? All I know is he became a non-aging drunken recluse while his family seemed to have died of... thirst? Because they didn't rot, I wasn't sure if they'd merely passed out or felt like taking a nap while their dad was gone.
Though, I suppose they dried up and became alien jerky what with the lack of moisture. It has potential for a remake as long as they can clarify some things and maybe put a little meaning to them. Throw in a little microcosm or metaphor to the real world.
That would make it so much better.
