Review of The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976) by L J — 18 May 2007
This is what cinematic sci-fi was like in the 1970s BEFORE Star Wars - intelligent, thought-provoking, involving (when at its best, at least). A film for those who like characters and storytelling, rather than an obscene barrage of special-effects (although Nic Roeg still manages to make this visually impressive).
There never was a more perfectly-cast 'visitor' than Bowie (was he even acting?).
