Review of The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976) by Blind P — 28 Dec 2010
Enjoyment of David Bowie will dictate whether one will forgive the film for its arthouse excesses and be patient enough to decipher the meanings of the resource hungry alien stuck on and distracted by the comforts of Earth. I thought he did well, though it could be said the role was designed for him as he was in life.
As an entertainment piece if left much to be desired, preferring a meandering weave through a tangled visual skien.
I am supposing that through the reception of radio and other broadcast waves our alien came by the knowledge to instantly build a multinational company of dominating wealth, starting with zero resources. I could use some of that knowledge in my life right about now!
Your conclusions will be your own, which is a strength of the picture in that it leaves things to your imagination.
