Review of The Man Who Cried (2000) by Nikita A — 30 Nov 2006
The Man Who Cried, directed by Sally Potter is an emotionally driven film. The narrative is very simple to follow. The characters are very defined and are easy to identify with. All the cast are excellent, Christina Ricci and Johnny Depp are always a fantastic combination of actors that always work well together.
Cate Blanchett and John Turturro also are pretty amazing! The characters drive the narrative forward, both of Christina Ricci's character Fegele/Suzie and Johnny Depp's character Cesar have little dialogue, instead relying on expressions which show the strength of the acting of both.
The pace of the film it is fantastic, it is relaxing but keeps you motivated. The cinematography was beautiful and great care has been taken to compose the shots. A very stunning and beautiful art-house drama, it always catches my eye everytime I watch it.
A recommended watch!
