Review of The Man Who Cried (2000) by Laurie E — 06 Jun 2007
Johnny Depp plays the strong silent type to perfection in the man who cried (2000). Literally, he doesn't say a word for the first half of the movie, and rarely after that. His co-stars in this are Cate Blanchett, John Turturro and Harry Dean Stanton. It also reteams him for the third time with Christina Ricci; previously together in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998) and Sleepy Hollow (1999).
Anyway, Ricci plays a Russian Jew in Paris searching for her father during WWII, Depp plays the gypsy she falls in love with and Blanchett plays her best friend. Each aspect of this film seems to work, but in actuality it doesn't. It kinda lies flat, sadly never really grabbing hold of the viewer. With that said, I'm sure any Johnny Depp fan will love it just the same.
