Review of The Man in the White Suit (1951) by Madeline S — 22 Sep 2006
Ok, part 2 of Alec Guinness Collection (The Ladykillers being part one). A delightful and sarcastic sci-fi comedy from the Ealing studios and Ladykillers director Alexander Mackendrick. Alec Guinness plays a innocent, smart, yet misunderstood scientist who develops a type of fabric that can be worn FOREVER! The problem is that everybody wants to stop him because they are afraid the new invention will ruin the economy.
Using witty and sharp humour, the blackness of this comedy seeps through at the end, and you will see a somewhat surprise ending. Although it is not as shocking as The Ladykillers, this movie is still one of the definite comedy standards.
The typical example of they-don't-make-movies-like-this-nowadays.
