Review of The Man in the White Suit (1951) by William C — 03 Feb 2015
The Man in the White Suit is the story of a man who works for a clothing manufacturer who invents a fabric that does not wear down and will not stain. He views it as a brilliant discovery that will change the world, but his bosses view it as a brilliant discovery that will put them out of business.
The film is actually a very unique look at the cause and effect of progress in industry. I didn't seem to connect as well with Alec Guiness' character in this movie, and I felt it was a bit light on the laughs.
There was some funny stuff in the development scenes where he's coming up with the fabric, but I think I've come to expect a little more humor from these early Guiness performances. It raises some interesting debates, and it's hard to know exactly who to root for in some of the later scenes.
In the end I did enjoy The Man in the White Suit but it's not one I'm anxious to watch again.
