Review of The Man in the Moon (1991) by Walker W — 21 Dec 2008
CONSENSUS: Another magnificent picture by Mulligan, whose gift in drawing out the best in the child actors is ever present as it was in his masterpiece TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD. Witherspoon is preternatural for her age, outshining the rather underwhelming Warfield.
Graceful in its unfolding, faultlessly capturing the awkwardness as well as wide-eyed nature of youth. A remarkable sleeper and one of (if not) Witherspoon's best, this is a heartfelt Southern drama similar in message to SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS about the fleeting perception of childhood.
MY GRADE: A-.
