Review of The Man in the Iron Mask (1998) by Cade L — 08 May 2009

I remember having mixed feelings about this when it first came out and I was a mere (and easily impressed) 10 years old at the time. I still have mixed feelings about it. It looks great, and the cast is great, but something very important is missing.

I can't quite lay my finger on it. First, the acting is not nearly as good as it should have been (DiCaprio was still in his "too pretty to act" phase). The music was meh. The script was very meh.

I just feel like it was a studio mish-mash creation with no real inspiration other than really nice costumes and movie stars. The story has great potential for extremely compelling drama and beauty, but this one falls short of that.
