Review of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015) by Kyle B — 05 Dec 2015
It's a fun solid spy thriller with a sense of humor and lots of charismatic performances. Henry Cavill is really great in this and I really think he is such an interesting actor but it held down by boulders by the Superman franchise in terms of having some fun and being in a more interesting action movie.
Armie Hammer is great too though his Russian accent might get a little too distracting knowing his past work. The shining star like in every 2015 movie this year was Alicia Vikander. If they had an Oscar category for Best Year for an Actor, she would win hands down.
She is so fun in this role especially the silly dance number in the middle. The costumes are great, the score is fun, the action is good, but I think the script itself was ok. It doesn't break new ground but in the year of great spy movies like Kingsman, Spy, and Spectre, this makes a good addition to this strong year for spy movies.
