Review of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015) by Tony G — 24 Dec 2015
Guy Ritchie puts his stylish stamp all over this adaptation of "The Man of U.N.C.L.E." but it fails to cover up the lack of an interesting plot.
The story from which "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." - the partnership of an American and Soviet spy during the height of Cold War tensions - promises a higher-stakes storyline. Instead the story is so bland and cartoonish that you really don't get the edge of your seat feeling that a flick like this should provide.
Cavill and Vikander are solid. The film does nothing to damage their recent rise into stardom (Cavill with Superman and Vikander with her excellent turns in "Ex-Machina" and "The Danish Girl") but Armie Hammer continues his string of non-star making turns in "The Lone Ranger" and "J Edgar".
But the film is all about Guy Ritchie and he injects some fun into the film stopping it from becoming a trainwreck and an enjoyable view.
