Review of The Man from Snowy River (1982) by Steffen K — 25 Jun 2007
An Australian western, filmed in the Snowy Mountain range of Australia. I grew up watching this movie, and upon a recent viewing, find that I still have a soft spot for it in my heart. Jim Craig and his father live atop one of these ridges, living off of the land.
A freak accident results in the demise of Jim's father, who must then move down into the valley, to find work. The reason? The other mountain men, who greatly revered Jim's dad, feel Jim must earn the respect to live on the ridges.
And, through certain circumstances (hint: regarding wild horses), Jim proves himself worthy to own the land his great father left behind. (It sounds cheesy, I know; but, it's great fun to watch!).
