Review of The Man from Nowhere (2010) by Camilla O — 24 Jun 2011
Another vengeance movie from South-Korea this time about a pawn shop owner played by Bin Won with a dark past who evenutally gets involved with the Chinese drug mafia through his neighbor a drug-addict mom and her 10 year old daughter.
The story takes time to develop and Bin Won, a Korean movie star looks like a Korean Johnny Depp in 21 Jump Street with a dark side (anyone even remember this TV-show?) Anyways, it gets brutal and violent with some too unbelievable action scenes.
It's not as original as some of the other Korean movies I've seen (Oldboy, Lady Vengeance, Mother, also starring Bin Won) but it's far better than the average Hollywood thriller/action movie.
No matter how brutal and violent it gets you can always count on these Korean movies to get emotional and sentimental; even when the hero saves the day and the girl he doesn't ride off into the sunset but instead cries tears of sorrow.
