Review of The Man from Nowhere (2010) by Chen Y — 12 Aug 2011
Somewhat of a cross between leon: the professional, taken, and man on fire, this foray into the action-thriller genre from south korea is a great film. the relationship between the two main characters is well-portrayed and doesn't seem artificial.
the action sequences are raw and beautifully filmed, though sometimes a little extreme and gory (this film is not for the faint of heart). the villains are easily hateable, and the little girl is easily loveable, and the main character out to rescue her is just a badass.
even though his character ultimately does seem a little one-dimensional (the flashbacks don't do much to allow the viewers to sympathize with him), he makes up for that with pure unadulterated asskicking power.
