Review of The Man from Nowhere (2010) by Nishlank J — 24 Sep 2014
A fantastic, and surprisingly nuanced film. This isn't strictly a martial arts film, it's more of an action/thriller where the characters happen to use martial arts when the action does happen. And not the silly wire-based kind. This is the grounded, tendon slicing, bone breaking, wince inducing kind.
The story is tight and the characters are actually given time to breathe, especially in the opening hour which is mostly action-free. Now this might drive away viewers searching for something like the Raid, but if you stick with it, the slow burn start makes the finish all the more spectacular. After spending the majority of the film getting to know these characters, every punch, kick and knife slash carries weight, and the climax will leave you breathless.
