Review of The Man from Earth (2007) by Lautaro S — 16 Jul 2012
Fantastic film that raises more questions than can be discussed here. But do not watch this for action sequences, cool weapons or aliens, because there are none. The plot is simple, a retirement party for a history professor turns intense when he confides in his peers that he is a 14,000 year old caveman.
Its better than it sounds. They take it as the plot of a novel at first, and begin to pepper him with questions, but as it becomes clear he is not just spinning a yarn, the questions become more pointed and delve into tense areas of religion and science.
The story raises all sorts of questions about mortality, god, and delves into the man's possible roles in history. Brilliant story, acting that ranges from pretty good to uncomfortably poor, but none of it matters because you are completely focused on the dialogue.
Again, dialogue and some very cool ideas/notions are all your getting here.
