Review of The Man Called Flintstone (1966) by Tim S — 30 Mar 2012
Before I get into bashing The Man Called Flintstone I guess I should explain myself a bit. I actually hadn't seen this in years until most recently. I was actually a lover of this when I was very, very small but I hadn't seen it since then.
Picking it up cheap, I was excited to see it again but ultimately let down when I realized just how mediocre it was... perhaps less than mediocre. What worked as a half hour cartoon definitely did not translate well to the big screen.
To be fair, there are some fun ideas in here, but they're hampered with lame dialogue, horrendous LSD-induced animated sequences and plot-stopping musical numbers. Maybe this would have been better off as a TV special instead.
Either way, it still doesn't hold up well at all. I give it credit because I enjoyed it as a child and because I love The Flintstones, but other than that, forget it. It's a good idea but executed poorly.
