Review of The Maltese Falcon (1941) by Chris C — 03 Jan 2012
The visuals are great, and the suspense is constant, making this a perfect example of a classic film noir. However, I was disappointed in the overall quality of the film itself. Bogart is absolutely sensational, but I can't say the same about Mary Astor, who was decent at best.
Also, the plot is winding and a tad predictable. Bogart's great performance, along with the humor and wit of Sydney Greenstreet and Peter Lorre makes The Maltese Falcon an entertaining, suspenseful film noir, albeit extremely overrated.
