Review of The Maltese Falcon (1941) by Monty H — 17 Dec 2012
Humphrey Bogart is super cool and tough as ace private eye Sam Spade who gets involved with some shady characters who are after a prized possession called the maltese falcon. Sam gets double-crossed, has his partner killed, and becomes a prime suspect by the police. This is classic cinema right here. Bogie is at his best as the tough talking Spade. And the bay guys are very effective- Sydney Greenstreet as the fat man; Peter Lorre as Mr. Cairo, and a young Elisha Cook Jr. as the fat man's henchman who immediately takes a dislike to Spade. And of course there is a girl- Mary Astor who is just trouble the moment she comes onto the screen. A must see golden age film.
