Review of The Major and the Minor (1942) by Jay K — 07 Oct 2011
The Major and the Minor is written and directed by Billy Wilder, so you can be pretty confident it's the best movie about a woman pretending to be 12-years-old to save $16 on train fare there is. It's enormously silly, occasionally creepy to a modern audience, but always entertaining.
Ray Millan's Major ("Call me Uncle Philip, hmm? Do you have a nightie with you?") is the only one doesn't think Ginger Rogers's Minor looks a tad older and slightly too womanly ("Looks kinda filled out for 12," a conductor comments pretty early on), but of course that's the joke.
Once you accept what's going on here, it's good fun.
