Review of The Majestic (2001) by Thomas P — 07 Apr 2008
Another forgotten gem, not that it was seen at the time. You'd have thought audiences would have flocked to see Jim Carrey in his pomp with the director of everyone's fave films 'The Shawshank Redemption' and 'The Green Mile'.
Did they not see it because it was rubbish? No, this is great. An old-fashioned Hollywood film the likes of which is very rarely seen. Carrey delivers a strong central omeperformance and is supported by superb array of supporting characters that make up the dreamy town.
All the kinds of scenes are here I love - weeping at dads dying, romance at sunset, injustice, building to a climax etc. and the wartime jazz soundtrack weaves it all together.
