Review of The Majestic (2001) by Ray D — 13 Sep 2008
Dull, Dull, Dull, Very Dull movie that feels like it's dragging for every one of its 150 minutes---Jim Carrey makes an honest go of it trying to do a serious role as a blacklisted hollywood writer who loses his memory and is adopted by a small town who thinks he's somebody else and puts him to work running the old movie theater---there's an interesting story idea here, about lies and truth, and the way people would like to live, but it gets drowned out by Darabont's (Admittedly, very lovely) camera shots, and the endless speechifying.
Like being drowned in sweet golden honey.
