Review of The Majestic (2001) by Dustin G — 20 Oct 2009
Frank Darabont should make more movies. The guy's only directed four. But all four of them are fantastic films. The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, The Mist and this, his sole film NOT adapted from a Stephen King story. The Majestic is actually a very simple, low key film about a guy who loses his memory and finds himself in a town where the citizens mistake him for a dead war hero. It's also about the love of movies and the resurrection of the town movie theater.
Even though there isn't any big twists, or action scenes, or departures from your basic Hollywood movie script, I loved this film for its simplicity and its well drawn characters and it's love of movies.
PLUS, as an added bonus, you've got Sand Pirates of the Sahara, a little movie within a movie that stars a cameo by Bruce Campbell. Now you try and tell me that a Bruce Campbell cameo in ANY movie isn't the bomb.
