I liked parts of the Majestic. It started out as a tribute to the art of cinema, from a director who had proven himself as an incredibly talented film-maker with the Shawshank Redemption and the Green Mile.

However, the core of the film was about amnesia and the emotions and troubles it brings. While I still thought the film was decent, it began to feel really forced and I felt that it was trying too hard to gain my sympathy.

Also, there was no need for it to be 2 and a half hours long. The performances were good, though Martin Landau I feel was the standout. For me, I felt the film was inconsistent. The film would keep changing from its nostalgic look back at the past of film as an art, but then would go straight back to the amnesia storyline.
