Three reasons to see this film: [1] Christopher Walken: 'nough said. [2] Morgan Freeman is a stay at home man version of the "crazy cat lady." [3] William H. Macy's bare ass. This movie was delightful - I heard about it when it was in the pre-production stage and then lost track of it.
The next time I heard about it, one of my friends mentioned that a graduate of la Fitchburg State College Theatre program had a small but awesome role in it. From there I saw him [Anthony Cascio] at a show I was in, and we chatted about Morgan Freeman and Christopher Walken and what it was like working with em' and such.
Great stories. My interest was reignited in the flick and I made a risk: I bought the DVD right away. I'm 50/50 when it comes to "blind buys" [buying a movie with no knowledge of its awesomeness/ shitty-ness] but it worked out for the better because this movie was extremely enjoyable.
I chuckled plenty of times, one or two belly laughs, and was thrilled by the performances of the "star-studded" cast ... and I include Anthony in there when I say "star-studded." He had a good amount of screen time and provided me with two decent laughs.
This was an oddball comedy - I went into it not even knowing it was a comedy - very quirky - a few sight gags [WH Macy's ass] and a lot of fun dialogue. I found myself laughing a lot - randomly - but that's just me.
Marcia Gay Harden was a believable nagging crazy over-the-top wife to Walken's character. The story was nice - an interesting take on a espionage-ish art caper comedy. The director has a few interesting films under his belt: [1] Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey and [2] Garfield.
Let me say that you would have never guessed it. The film is straight-forward, enjoyable, funny, odd, not-so-action-packed, weirdly paced comedy. The end felt a little long - nothing too too bad - but at some points you are just like 'Where are the credits?' The beginning was wacky and awesome - surprised me.
It was nice to see Christopher Walken hold a gun and shoot some dudes. Overall an awesome flick - rent it, buy it, - just see it.
