Review of The Magnificent Seven (2016) by Greg B — 10 Oct 2016
"The Magnificent Seven" is a western remake starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt as two renegade cowboys who are commissioned by denizens of a small town to defend it from a wealthy Industrialist who wants to pave the small town for its minerals.
The acting is good all around and the film presents as an authentic period piece. The only thing lacking in the film is that the plot is a bit too linear, which leads to a predictable conclusion. I don't fault the movie too much for it because the western genre is notorious for the climactic showdown gunfight between the cathartic powers of good and evil.
The character development is slightly lacking in this film but I understand that is because the movie is more about the action than the characters. A fine remake overall ---------------------------------------------------- B.
