Review of The Magnificent Seven (2016) by Valeria P — 07 Apr 2017
This movie was entertaining enough, although it could have used some editing, and of course doesn't come close to the original that inspired it. However, one of the last scenes is really annoying: a woman saves one of the main characters from certain death using a rifle.
After all is said and done, the male character goes and takes the gun from the woman's hands, in a very paternalistic gesture as if to protect her from it. Not even a thank you, as if women couldn't be trusted with their emotions and using tools to defend themselves and others.
The director missed a great opportunity to leave that scene on the cutting floor.
