Review of The Magnificent Seven (2016) by Rusty M — 27 Jun 2017
How many times in the same movie can you say, "well I sure didn't see THAT coming!"? Whatever the threshold is, this move beats it by a few. The only real surprise is that none of the white guys live.
Not all of the people of color live either, but it's an interesting spin on the "the black guy dies first" trope. Overall, it's an over-wrought mess of a movie. The most superlative thing about turns out to be the laziest performance ever by an actor hired to play the villain: Saarsgard spends the whole movie looking (and acting) like a petulant child who got woken up from his nap too soon.
