Review of The Magnificent Seven (2016) by Ellen C — 28 Aug 2017
Horner's music is magnificent, and the casting as well. the plot a bit altered, lives up to the soul-saving magnificence of the originals, both Samurai, and Seven. No one can replace Yul Brynner, but Denzel does a damn fine job, and whoohoo for his first western pulled off magnificently.
Loved Chris Pratt in the McQueen role, although this cast has much more action and dialogue than the original heroes. Kudos to Vincent D'Onofrio for that voice, and his "bear in human clothes" interpretation.
Stirring, inspirational, and yes, bloody, but not stereotypical in any way. As a fan of the originals, this rates as a great western in the archtype genre and stands proudly as the third in a magnificent trio of films stemming from Kurosawa's vision.
