Review of The Magnificent Seven (2016) by Liam H — 11 Apr 2017
The dramatic build up of this film is actually good. However the dramatic build up lasts for 1.5 hrs of a 2 hr long film. The action at the climax of the film is actually a little messy. I believe fighting like that is probably quite realistic to how a gun battle would happen but it comes across a little messy in film format.
The climactic fighting would have benefitted from being more structured and broken down into easy to watch chunks. Because essentially you have just watched 1 and a half hours of dramatic build up to then watch a messy, free for all action sequence which leaves you dissapointed.
The film does deserve some kudos for having black and asian characters but not mentioning it in the dialouge at all therefore giving the characters respect and prestige without mentioning race. Even although the majority of this film is good it lacks the old school western moments of genuine tension.
Sometimes the characters venture into cheesy territory but I think this is a symptom of trying to make the film fast paced they didn't give the time to really develop the characters. However it is still a mediumly entertaining movie.
