Review of The Magnificent Seven (2016) by Giorgio G — 10 Oct 2016
One movie that really caught me by surprise was this remake of the Magnificent 7. I'm not really a sucker for Western movies anymore (very contrary to my childhood), and I went to see this one mainly as there wasn't anything else interesting on this week.
But, WOW, what a blast. Well, the story is the same-ole-same-ole, but the action is way beyond of what you know of a normal Western flick where 90% is plain lame talk. In many ways it has classical touches of Sergio, but with a very modern fast paced appeal, thus never drifting into dull long scenes which one hopes to end asap.
The final shoot-out is a spectacle on its own; a bit over the top with more guys dying than in a Rambo movie, but it's well done and giving something to any traditionalist as well as young moviegoers.
8 out of 10 stars.
