Review of The Magician (1958) by Chris B — 03 Oct 2010
This is one of my favourite bergman films and one of the first films (of his) I earnestly watched. IT is about a conversation (deabate) beetween reason+ science vs magic and faith ... it is not about religion as much as it is about the capcity of the human will as its about the capcity of the human will and the orientation of perception.
it is both both immensely watchable and enjoyable as well as being imbued with a totally coherent underlying intelligence. as well as a truly great performance by max von sydow. Im only giving it 5 stars, as it relates to bergmans other work at least works klike the seventhh seal or persona it might be more prudent to give it a four or four and half.
but whatever:).
