Review of The Magic of Belle Isle (2012) by Miriam H — 03 Nov 2012
Morgan Freeman is always entertaining, but the fact that his grumpy character turns into a pussycat in 5 minutes kind of ruins it. Remember when Rob Reiner was someone who's movies mattered? Ya, neither does he.
I would have really liked a movie that would have looked at Freeman's character Monte more in depth than just having him cured by the love of little children. I don't hate this movie, and it's got it's place, but not at all essential or important.
However, it's a great choice for kids who are past animation but not yet at PG movies who could use some optimism.
