Review of The Magic Flute (2006) by Miriam W — 06 Jan 2008
First, good to see CGI being put to good and creative use. Despite the now much done war theme, it's still interesting compared to the original setup. Haven't seen this Opera before. I felt that this is a very good introduction and the music/sound is superb. It has bits that you will end up humming all day. The Stephen Fry libretto is hilarious.
The plot is clearly on the theme of good vs. evil while it's execution isn't necessarily typical. But who want to watch something easy? This is a proper opera made more accessible by the libretto and interpretation. It's not a movie derivative such as Closer which is influenced by Cosi Fan Tutte and features music from the opera.
