Review of The Machinist (2004) by Alex W — 24 Dec 2011
4/5.
I had really high hopes for this due to the director behind this thing made the great Session 9 and even though I do not usually like Christian Bale, I gave this thing a chance and must say, The Machinist is one strange and different film but it's outstanding and every one must see it.
Tever Rezink (Bale) lives a very bad life. He can't eat or sleep. One day at work he meets a new co-worker which leads to bad in so many ways.
Christian Bale put together a great performance and it's also very powerful in many ways. He so strange in this and I also impressed how much weight he lost for this role. I also going to look at Christian Bale at lot different for now due to this role.
I also like how the film goes in so many directions. One minute it's that way and the next minute it's the other way. The film also makes you feel very creepy and I haven't felt that way in a while from a film. The twist is good and a fine way to end this thing. It's also one of those twist you don't see coming.
Even though the strangeness to the film make it very cool, it also leads to unrealistic parts. One scenes, Christian Bale character walks into a DMV with blood and scratches all over his face and then sits down and fills out a hit and run. I mean I'm all for strangeness but you got to be realistic. The film can also be predictable at times.
The Machinist is a hidden little gem that I doubt many people saw. If you can find this thing, I would recommend this great Brad Anderson film.
