Review of The Machinist (2004) by Simon O — 11 May 2012
Fight Club minus any and all intrigue. It is an enormous rip off and doesn't even come close to being as good, interesting, or mysterious. The acting, cinematography and pacing were good, and the subplot with the waitress and her kid works.
Other than that, it is a colossal time waster with obvious plot turns that will have you hating the character when he doesn't understand whats going on (unlike yourself, the viewer) and is an asshole about it.
In nutshell, it's a well executed yet painfully unoriginal film. Not bad as a self contained movie, but thoroughly unenjoyable if you even know what a (spoiler warning) schizophrenic is.
