Review of The Machinist (2004) by Timothy S — 30 Nov 2012
A very unsettling, grimy movie filled with powerful imagery and symbolism a bit lacking in subtlety. Christian Bale's intense performance conveys a man gradually tearing his life apart through paranoia, and a thought provoking sense of mystery throughout the movie reaches a cathartic conclusion in the last few minutes without undermining the rest of the movie.
A reoccurring motif in the score gets repetitive to the point of losing its impact though.
