Review of The Machine (2013) by Martin G — 26 Jun 2014
The Machine is a small film with big ideas. I feel like writer/ Director Caradog W. James established the framework for a 3 hour long epic, but had to cut it it down drastically due to budgetary constraints.
It's well acted and it's visual effects are quite spectacularly realized, so I'll forgive the patchwork. The pulsing atmospheric synth score suits the action scenes well. I'm a sucker for 80's era influence.
The whole thing is really pretty clever, throw a little bit of the Terminator, a smidgen of Splice, and a healthy dose of Blade Runner.. and you have The Machine. I only wish it were longer for the sake of the overall story.
Everything transpires so fast there appear to be gaps and scenes out of sequence. For what is, however, it's pretty cool.
