Review of The Machine (2013) by Thomas W — 28 Aug 2014
In the not too distant future, gifted artificial intelligence engineer Vincent McCarthy (Toby Stephens - Die Another Day) hires the passionately dedicated A.I. engineer Ava (Caity Lotz - The Pact) to work side-by-side with him developing secret projects and other advances for the British government.
The duo is also secretly working on a fully "self-aware" intelligence in hopes of creating a body/shell that will "house" and adopt the mind of Vincent's dying daughter; but they are working against the clock as his daughter's health is deteriorating rapidly and their bosses are becoming suspicious of their extra activities! The engineers know that if the government were to get ahold of this new A.
I., the world would be doomed as they'd use it for nefarious purposes and little could be done to stop it. When a protest rally at their base goes horribly awry, Vincent finds himself struggling to keep his assistant alive until he is left with no option but to use the new A.
I. to save Ava. As she becomes The Machine, Vincent McCarthy's deepest fears begin coming true. Can he keep Ava from becoming the government's newest weapon?
