Review of The Lunchbox (2013) by Venkat M — 19 Oct 2013
A surprisingly satisfying cinematic experience: there are moving and subtly nuanced performances from the leads, and a controlled and interestingly structured script which produced a sweet film that is not saccharine - a rarity under any circumstances these days.
In less capable (and more conventional) hands, it could easily end up being a sentimental rom-com but this film avoids such trappings while still making it relatable and most importantly, real. A film about human relationships infused with love and the love for Indian food - and try not going in with an empty stomach!
