Review of The Lunchbox (2013) by Nikhil U — 19 Nov 2013
#3.
A beautiful work, one of the best produces of the Indian film industry.
It makes us wonder of how a simple yet beautiful story can be this magical and how it opens up a wide range of emotions within us. It gives you joy. The idea of a budding romance between two strangers who haven't ever met each other, through the exchange of a series of lunchbox notes , was indeed fascinating.
Sometimes a single piece of work from a person is all that is needed to grow a sense of admiration and respect towards them, and Ritesh Batra is one of those few people. Being both the directer and screenwriter, he has nurtured this film and has intricately woven all the subtle details and the happenings into a fine piece of art. "Lunchbox" is a journey through solitude , which embraces love and connects your deepest emotions.
The idea of alternate endings is cleverly used in it, which is of course is a delightful last piece of tile to this wonderful work.
Irfan Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, undoubtedly the two precious jewels of the Hindi film industry.
Irrfan khan is elegant, natural and wonderful. His expressions communicate louder than his words. Such an inspiring performance.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui, one of the few actors who I've come across, who puts their best in all of their performances, Yet again refurnishes his standards and provides a lively and enthusiastic performance.
The talented Newbie Nimrat Kaur has done an excellent work in the lead, again her silent expressions have contributed much.
Bottom line, It's a flawless work, and a heavy contributor to the maturation of Indian cinema.
