Review of The Lunchbox (2013) by Amilcar A — 30 Mar 2014
Not having been to India is one of my regrets in life. I need to get my ass there pronto. In addition, I need to learn that after watching Indian movies I need to get my ass to the nearest restaurant since I leave them salivating.
Obviously, the Lunchbox, a movie where food is a central part of the plot only fucked with my brain.
The Lunchbox is collage of cultural expositions. The film covers food, relationships, class, traditions and the clash of modernism with heritage. It shows India for what it really is. A nation with huge contrasts, color, warmth, poverty and ambition.
I was expecting the movie to be a bit more uplifting. It was rather depressing and the end gives you the opportunity to go in any direction you choose. There are no easy choices though.
I would strongly recommend this movie to anyone that cares about interesting films.
