Review of The Lunchbox (2013) by Eric A — 22 May 2014
This was a refreshing surprise...from the trailers you might expect an Indian Sleepless in Seattle, but what you get is a journey of an aging man near to retirement and a young restless wife -- both are uncertain of what life has dealt them.
Through a touch of whimsy the woman's lunch box meant for her husband is delivered through the dabawalla system and makes its way to the wrong man. The soon to retire gentleman is taken aback by the lunch.
..and begins with a criticism of the lunch, then continues a dialogue with this lonely woman. Touching performances help us get through the disappointments that they experience; you soon realize that perhaps chance creates opportunity that we often avoid.
..and we settle for something completely different. Nawazuddin Siddiqui charms us as well as the young accountant that wants to be trained so he may also find his opportunity. Nimrat Kaur as the lonely wife speaks volumes with her silent stares into the possibilities.
..this movie is not too be missed.
