Review of The Lunchbox (2013) by Meredith W — 19 Jul 2014
"The Lunchbox" is a melancholic movie about the little moments in life. Retiring accountant Mr. Saajan (Irrfan Khan) and young mother Lla (Nimrat Kaur), become pen pals of sorts when Lla sends her husband a special lunchbox and, by accident, the lunchbox is delivered to Mr.
Saajan instead. Realising the meal was misdirected, Lla writes a letter, places it inside the next day's lunchbox and what unfolds are sincere and beautiful messages that changes their lives. This is a movie not just about the two individuals, as much as India as the audience is taken with them into nooks and crannies of everyday Mumbai.
As in "The Namesake" Khan creates a humble, human man for whom your heart aches.
