Review of The Lunchbox (2013) by Matt H — 30 Aug 2014
After the cloying Hundred-Foot Journey, it's a breath of fresh air to see a film centered on food that's so restrained. Bollywood great Irrfan Khan is excellent as Saajan, a solitary accountant on the verge of retirement.
One day he mistakenly gets a lunchbox packed by a housewife (Nimrat Kaur) who meant it for her husband. But he responds to her food more than her husband ever does, and so she begins to ship him regular meals, and then letters.
The Lunchbox is sentimental sometimes to a fault, but boy does it get to you.
